COLA Wraps Up First Summer Camp for Belize City Kids

Primary school children from across Belize City participated in a weeklong summer program organized by COLA.  The camp which culminated this morning at Wesley Lower School in the downtown area saw roughly forty students participating.  They received certificates of completion and recognition at a brief ceremony held on the school compound.  The summer camp is a first of its kind for COLA since a new president took over in June.

“It was for two weeks, for kids between eight to thirteen years old.  We were catering for fifty kids and realistically, you know, once kids are attracted to fun and so forth, so the numbers increase and we have an obligation to mentor and to work with all our children and so the summer camp featured a whole lot of fun activities, including arts and craft, basketball, football, rugby sport, you know, they also did a tour at the museum yesterday to learn their history, courtesy of the sponsorship through the museum and the Houses of Culture.  They also did a lot of poster design.  We also had a little protesting session where we got the kids actually, recommendation by Jules Vasquez, where we got the kids to walk around the school to protest a little bit and to practice with their little posters and so it was really a fun-filled two weeks for the kids.”
