…And Shoman claims his family is being threatened

And while he is accused of allegedly threatening at least one of the defendants, Jose Shoman says it’s quite the contrary. In a press conference late this afternoon, Shoman in the presence of his attorney, Derrick Courtenay, claimed that since the onset of the case, the family has been receiving death-threats.

“It was brought to my attention mid-morning that they were taken to the Magistrates’ Court and applied for bail, which they were denied and it was further brought to my attention, a very disgusting allegation that I actually threatened the people who are accused of coming and murder my family. Firstly, let is look into the procedures of the Kolbe Foundation. It felt as if though I was approaching an airport because not even a pen can pass through those the metal detectors. So it seems absurd when they come up with the idea of a threat.”

“This allegation sir, I understand that police also took statements from these individuals, as to whether that was so that you did threatened them and with a gun”

“It’s good to see that we have a good democratic process even for those locked up back there, noh. I also have confidence in the justice system and the police department that one can just come and make wild accusations and allegations against another one and if they look into it, they’ll know there’s no truth to it.”

“In contrary is it true that you guys are the ones that are actually getting threats from these individuals despite the fact that they are in a maximum security facility, you know?”

“I never want to jeopardize the case because we must commend the police did a wonderful job and I have my confidence in the prosecution section and the Director of Public Prosecution and the courts but yes, we have been threatened. I’ve received threats”

“I’ve been threatened yes.”

“Yes it’s been documented. How dare they come—they are the ones who are the aggressors, they are the ones that wanted to commit this heinous crime and accusing me of threatening them and then act as though they are the victims, they’re trying to blow a smoke screen so that they can get out of this predicament that they’re in. But Belizeans we are not fooled, the justice system is not fooled and if they commit the crime or allegedly wanted to commit a crime, let the justice wheels deal with them. We are not afraid of them.”
