Vendor was not the Intended Target of Fatal Shooting
There is some progress in the murder investigation of one of four victims of last week Tuesday’s murder spree. Police say that murdered Belize City vendor, Jose Hilario Diaz, was not the intended target. The authorities have also ruled out robbery as a motive. Diaz, a clothing vendor, was shot in the face and killed last Tuesday evening inside his small shop on Cemetery Road in Belize City. Since then, police have arrested and charged one man for abetment to murder. Investigators say that they are now looking for a suspect:
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division
“Reference the shooting death of Mr. Jose Hilario Diaz, police arrested and charged Leroy Haulze for the conspiracy to commit murder. Yes, likewise, there is another person that police is seeking at the moment. A wanted poster will be issued reference that person in a short while.”
Andrea Polanco
“Do we know why Diaz was killed?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“We do believe what is the motive and for certain the investigation is pointing out that he was not the target.”
