A Synopsis of Mason’s Murder Trial Thus Far
On Friday, Justice Antoinette Moore ruled that a caution statement given by Mason’s co-accused, Ernest Castillo, in which he confesses to lapping off Lucas’ head, was inadmissible. As a result, all five men are jointly facing a charge of murder. Defense attorney Norman Rodriguez also shared a few words with the media after today’s session and gave a synopsis of what transpired in court today as well as the evidence presented.
Norman Rodriguez, Attorney
“The forensic witness came to give evidence and the Crown attempted to get in some of the forensic evidence as to this trial.”
Reporter
“Is he the main, as far as you are aware, is he the main witness that the Crown has intended to get most of the exhibits before the court?”
Norman Rodriguez
“Well, you will know that they still have the F.B.I. evidence that the Crown will try to get in. But yes, Mr. Barrington Montero is definitely one of their key witnesses.”
Reporter
“Now sir, do you, I don’t intend to preempt you farther than just a yes or no question, but do you intend to challenge any of the evidence he’s provided against your client?”
Norman Rodriguez
“I will challenge the evidence or at least under cross-examination I will attempt to discredit the witness, as we are supposed to do as attorneys, though it will not affect my client much the evidence that was given today.”
As, we said, the trial has been moved to Belize City where several other witnesses will testify remotely via teleconference. The hearing resumes on Tuesday morning at nine o’clock.
