Anthony Reyes is Committed to Stand Trial for Murder of Emmerson Anderson

Tonight, a twenty-two-year-old youth is back on remand as he awaits trial for the 2018 murder of a man who was playing cards and was not the intended target. Anthony Lloyd Reyes, a barber of Mayflower Street, will have to stand trial for the murder of Emmerson Anderson.  Reyes’ preliminary inquiry kicked off this morning before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser and on conclusion, he was committed to stand trial at the Supreme Court on October first, 2019.   He was told to provide the court with a list of names of persons he intends to call to testify on his behalf as to his whereabouts on the night of March twenty-eighth, 2018 when Anderson was gunned down.  Prosecutor at the PI this morning, Superintendent Egbert Castillo, submitted as many as sixteen witnesses’ statements and over ten exhibits.  As alibi witnesses, Reyes gave six names of persons he intends to call at his trial, including his grandmother Sandra Uter, all residents of the Mayflower area of Belize City, where he lived at the time of the murder. Police say that a lone gunman discharged a barrage of bullets at a group of men then escaped in the night.  It happened at the corner of Sibun and Ebony Streets where Anderson was with two other persons playing a game of dice. Anderson was shot in the abdomen; he was rushed to the K.H.M.H., but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
