NTUCB speaks on fatal shooting of Allyson Major

On Monday, the N.T.U.C.B. issued a press release to condemn the wave of recent criminal activities. The organization raised concerns over the impact of crime on the workforce, highlighting that the spate of crime is a proof of (Quote) “an inequitable economy that has poor social protections in place.” (Unquote) The N.T.U.C.B. called for a Crime Control Commission to be convened to help address the crime in Belize.  It feels that the Crooks and Gaye Reports should be explored as a part of the solution to tackle the problem. President Marvin Mora says that the N.T.U.C.B. release was prompted by the recent killings, particularly by the shooting of Allyson Major Junior, who died at the hands of cops. Here’s more from Mora.

Marvin Mora

“In our press release, we are clear that we are monitoring the situation of crime. Of course, it was prompted because of the shooting of an individual in downtown Belize City. We are more than concerned; in fact, we believe that the new Commissioner does have the wherewithal to be able to come across with a thorough investigation and levy charges where applicable. We also don’t expect him to shield anybody from his department if they failed to act as they were trained and if they failed to act as the act itself and the law allows them to in relation to using their weapons.”
