6 contestants “Catch the Cash” at Courts
As promotions go, it’s about as slick as they come: a combination of luck, skill and drama that the folks at Courts believe will keep customers coming back for more. Today, however, as Jack Flash reports, it was all about money.
Jack Flash, Catch the Cash Emcee
“Hi everybody, Jack Flash here, we’re here in Belize City, at the Courts main store. We’re getting ready in the next few minutes for the catch the cash. Right here in the big booth, we’re gonna put six people, one from each district. They’re gonna grab for two thousand dollars. Two thousand dollars they are going to grab for sixty seconds. We’ll put them right here in our special Catch the Cash suit, special pockets that they can use. I actually understand that one of our contestants have been practising so she’s ready to go.”
Jack Flash was talking about Sherrylee Castillo, the only female to take part in the free for all contest.
Sherrylee Castillo
“I was nervous for a spell and I felt weak also. I just gone down and grabbed as much as I could grab. And during one spell, I wasn’t grabbing anything.”
Jose Sanchez
“So what will you do with your winnings?”
Sherrylee Castillo
“Save it. That’s all I have right now.”
Julio Huertas, a resident of Yo Creek Village, illustrated his technique that might have been adopted from the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Julio Huertas
“I think I put the money here, and put it in my pocket there. I open it (shirt) and put all the money in here.”
Jose Sanchez
“So how much money you think you’ll get.”
Julio Huertas
“I think about two thousand dollars.”
Huertas eventually grabbed one thousand one hundred and thirty three dollars, but the man who got lucky is Chiah Lin from San Ignacio. This is his second chance to catch the cash.
Chiah Lin
“I never think about I will be a winner again. So today I am very happy.”
Jose Sanchez
“So what did you do with your money the last time.”
Chiah Lin
“Last time I get three thousand, two hundred and seventy so I buy the TV in here and dropped the ticket again. So I am back.”
While Lin only won eight hundred and ninety three dollars, the big winner of today’s draw was Gustavo Turcios from Dangriga, who took home one thousand four hundred and thirty-eight dollars in addition to the two thousand given to each of the six contestants.
Gustavo Turcios
“I feel happy. I never think I could get one thousand four hundred and something.”
Jose Sanchez
“So what will you do with the money?”
Gustavo Turcios
“Well I don’t know about that right now. For now I put it in the bank and think about that afterwards.”
If you plan to catch the cash someday, the game’s veterans will have no shortage of advice on technique. Reporting for News 5, Jose Sanchez.
The eighteen thousand, seven hundred and eighty-eight dollars won today brings the Catch the Cash total give-away to thirty-six thousand, four hundred and six dollars. All income taxes, by the way, are paid by Courts. Three draws remain for the promotion, the next coming in September.
