Second Annual Back-to-School & Pantry Programme to Help City Residents
The Belize City Council is launching its second annual back to school and pantry programme next week. The Council says that this time, even more underprivileged families will benefit. Last year, around this time, we reported on CitCo’s back to school and pantry programme that they launched under a ‘social infrastructure’ platform. The programme provides basic supplies of food, clothing, and school items through the assistance of a U.S based Ministry. Councilor Candice Pitts says that all constituencies in the City will benefit when the initiative kicks off at the Civic Center on Monday.
Candice Pitts, Councilor, Belize City Council
“Last year was the first year we partnered with the S&B Ministries which is a Christian based organization out of Florida to provide school bags, pantry and clothing and shoes and hygiene products. Last year we were able to provide five hundred school bags and we were able to cater to a few constituencies in the city. This year the program has increased and we are able to offer eight hundred book bags and we are servicing all ten constituencies in the city. The program starts on Monday at the Civic Center from ten to one in the afternoon. There will be several booths where at each booth you will be offered different services – such as the clothing, the foot wear, and so on. Very importantly, S&B Ministries want to offer a session at the start of the program where they will be doing some worship and offer the word of God. It is really a family event because all of these events really will be based on bringing the family together.”
