B.D.F. Cricket Team Prepare for Semi-final Round of Championships

While at Price Barracks today, we caught up with the B.D.F. cricket team, who has been preparing for the nationals in the sports. This year, a team of avid cricket athletes from the regular force and the volunteer battalion has their eyes set on the trophy and the bragging rights to become the 2019 Harrison Parks Cricket Champions. But to advance to the finals, they must take out the Bandits in zone B. That matchup is set for this Sunday right at the Price Barracks compound. News Five spoke with the coach and bowler.

“This is our second year into the Harrison Parks Cricket Competition. Last year, we got dropped by Summer Fever from Bermudian Landing. This year we were fortunate that we get the opportunity again to run over the summer fever. Our aim is to do the best that we can; everyone sees us and believes that we have the quality to be the national champion for this season.  All of these guys are out of the River Valley area, which is the home for cricket in Belize. So it is not that much that we need to get done; however, we have a batting techniques and bowling techniques to get these guys motivated. Sometimes yo know yo come out and yo not really in the mood, but yo have ways to go about to get everyone in the groove.”

“First of all when yo come, yo have to put yo all into practice and have to prepare yo mind say dah win yo want win because if yo play like yo noh want win, yo wah never win the game. When we come out and practice, some man lazy up themselves and noh want practice, but we always got higher man than we weh shub we fi do weh we have to do and we work hard out yah and when game day come, we highly motivated.  When we come out yah, I noh see no team weh could handle we. So come Sunday, I look for my best performance from me and my team. I just want we get this over with and I’d be really happy if we win this first game. Me , myself, I highly motivated by this game cause I got two bredda di play against me on the police team. So I need to take them on next. So coming Sunday, it’s on. From the first ball start to roll, wi ready.”
