Several Persons Detained for Murder of Elderly Man in Maya Mopan

Police say that there are several persons detained in connection with the murder of Porfilio Nino. The sixty-five-year-old farmer was first reported missing and shortly after, he was found buried in a shallow on his farm in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan. The family became alarmed when they were unable to reach Porfilio on his cell-phone. That led to a search of the property where police made the gruesome discovery.  ACP Joseph Myvett shared details of the findings and where they are with the investigation.

“Somewhere around approximately a hundred a twenty-five feet from the farm hut, police discovered a fight foot prosthetic leg believed to have been for Mr. Nino. As a result, the scene was processed and further searches were conducted by police and family members on Tuesday, where while searching an area about a hundred yards from the farm hut in some bushes a shallow grave was discovered where when dug up it revealed the body of Porfilio Nino in a state of decomposition. As a result, the scene was again processed where the body was exhumed, removed from the area where a post-mortem was conducted on the body which revealed in short that he died from blunt force trauma to the head. So far, there are several persons in custody pending this investigation.”

“We are also told that other injuries visible on the body were that of stab wounds?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes he had several stab wounds behind his neck. However, that seemingly did not contribute to his death.”

“Has the family indicated to police if Mr. Nino had any problems with anybody?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well, police did have several communications with the family and all those information given to us at this point in time are being followed and as a consequence of those information, several persons are detained additionally to those whom we are looking at.”

“What can you share about a possible motive?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point in time we have not established a clear motive and that is what we are trying to do as the investigation progresses.”

 

Reporter

“Can you confirm sir, if the victim may have left some sort of written document to indicate who may have had disputes with him that are pending and that are bitter?”

 

ACP Joseph Myvett

“I can say that, or I will go only as far as to say that yes indeed some documents were found but I will go so far as to say that I will confirm if that is indeed his handwriting before that is said.”
