Restaurant owner faces charges in cat case
Reaction to the startling story of a Cayo Chinese restaurant found to have freshly skinned cat in the kitchen has been fast and furious. Anecdotal reports from around Belize City indicate that last night business dropped off sharply at Chinese food emporiums as local consumers abandoned chowmein and fried rice for more readily identifiable fare. Owners of Chinese restaurants contacted by News 5 have all condemned the serving of cat and say that they have no knowledge of any similar incidents. Meanwhile, Lee Restaurant in San Ignacio remains shut down by health authorities. Proprietor Lee Chun Hua is expected to appear in Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of preparing a cat carcass for sale.
