Obama wants to visit Belize

Also in the margins of the Summit, in talks with United States President Obama, Prime Minister Barrow brought up the fact that since Robert Dieter returned to the U.S., there has been no U.S. ambassador to Belize. Barrow said that Obama promised to name one very soon. But it wasn’t all business during the summit, the prime minister had occasion to dine with Obama who he said indicated that he was interested in visiting the Jewel.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“He proposes within the next month to six weeks to nominate an ambassador to Belize, the person he has in mind is, I think he described him as old college buddy and we all know of the sorts of friendships that are formed between and among college buddies. The president also made the point that once the new ambassador is in place that will make it even easier or certainly less difficult to arrange the logistics of his visit to Belize. So I took him very seriously, but overall as I said, there was an ease of conservation. The man was extremely gracious, warm, no airs, no sense of standing on his authority, on the might on the U.S. as the most powerful country on earth. No, it was question of conversation between and among equals even if only at the summit or the dinner table.”
