Adar Awe Perishes in Fatal RTA on Hummingbird Highway

There was a fatal road traffic accident along the Hummingbird Highway last evening between miles thirty-six and thirty-seven.  The mishap involving a Ford Escape SUV happened shortly after six o’clock as forty-one-year-old Adar Awe, a sales representative of Orange Walk Town, and twenty-seven-year-old Dario Melendez of Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk District were traveling towards Belmopan.  When police arrived on the scene of the accident they observed the motionless body of Awe with severe head and body injuries.  An initial investigation revealed that the front left tire of the sports utility vehicle blew out, causing the driver to lose control and run off the highway, before flipping several times.  Both men were flung out of the vehicle.  Melendez suffered minor injuries.  Awe’s body was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
