20 Ecuadorans arrested on immigration charges
At about 10 o’clock this morning, twenty illegal immigrants were captured during a routine patrol of the Calla Creek area of the Cayo District. The group, all citizens of Ecuador presumably on their way to the United States, were at least two kilometres inside Belize’s western border when they were detected by the Belize Defence Force. The B.D.F. patrol radioed for back-up which included Immigration Officers and members of the Police Department who found the pack of illegales in possession of Guatemalan immigration documents, but no visas valid for Belize. The South Americans will be charged with illegal entry and likely face fines or jail time followed by deportation.
