Belmopan receives master plan from Mexico

The City of Belmopan, after a quarter century of sluggish growth, is experiencing something of a population boom. In order to cope with the rapid expansion the Mayor and City Council have sought professional help from the Technical Institute just across the border in Chetumal. On Friday Belmopan officials travelled north to receive the first phase of the master plan which includes suggested land use for the three hundred and eleven acres near the U.B. Belmopan campus. The institute’s twenty-five thousand dollar fee was waived for the first phase plan, although a topographical study to be done for phase two will cost one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. Before implementation the report will be closely studied and presumably modified by the city’s Master Plan Committee.
