Freetown Resident Charged with Murder

Police have cracked the murder of a Belize City businessman, Jose Hilario Diaz, and have charged another individual.  Diaz was gunned down at his store on Cemetery Road on July sixteenth, 2019.  Emmerson Garnette, a construction worker of Freetown Road, appeared this morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser. Garnette was unrepresented and was read a single charge for the murder. Reports are that a lone gunman walked up to Diaz and shot him in his head.  After shooting Diaz, the gunman ran up Mosul Street and turned into Baghdad Street and escaped. But surveillance camera led police to Garnette and Leroy Haulze, who has been charged with abetment to murder.  Haulze was arraigned on July nineteenth, for purposely aiding with the commission of a crime.  Haulze is due back in court on August twentieth, while Garnette is on September thirtieth, 2019.
