Chiste is UDP nominee in Dangriga

Story Picture
In political news the UDP has nominated a familiar face to contest the Dangriga constituency in the next general election. Russell “Chiste” Garcia, who held the seat from 1993 to 98, but was then defeated by current PUP representative Dr. Ted Aranda, finished first out of five candidates at the Saturday convention. He collected two hundred and seventy-one votes to one hundred and seventy-four for Harry Sabal, one hundred and thirty for Alden Chavez, fifty-four for Fred Garcia and forty-four for Cynthia Ellis. Chiste will face off in 2003 against the PUP nominee, former Dangriga mayor and Speaker of the House, Sylvia Flores.
