16 Students Dare to Dream with Courts Belize
Those who dared to dream are heading to high school courtesy of Courts. Sixteen students today received scholarships from the business based on financial need as well as academic performance. The recipients were all smiles today when they received their awards. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

Sixteen students have been dared to dream by Courts Belize. They were today recipients of a four-year high school scholarship under Court’s Dare to Dream Program. The students will receive eighty percent of their tuition and books fees.

“Our scholarship comprises of eighty percent. So it is eighty percent of books and tuition so from first to fourth form where all the students receiving scholarships today are graduates of standard six going into high school. So of course it is a huge transition for them going into high school and all of that. So how the company compromise themselves if giving them the opportunity to dare to dream, dare to be different and of course helping the family in financial alleviation.”
The recipients were chosen based on a criteria which includes financial need and academic dedication. Public Relations Officer Grisel Carballo says that during their time in high school, Courts Belize offers students tutoring and support.

“The company commits itself to eighty percent f the school or the students even need help, even struggling in their studying, the company will help in getting mentors and stuff like that. Right now they are starting at 2019 and they are scheduled to be graduating at 2023.”

“Can the scholarship be strip from them?”

“Yes. Coming into the scholarship there is a contract to be signed. This contract entails to do good, maintain a GPA of B and 3.0 and above, and if code of conduct. They must be good citizens. In our corporate company we have what is called the UNICOMER volunteer group. So we ask them to volunteer at least once a year to any of our activities.”

The Courts Dare to Dream Program has been positively affecting lives for the past twenty one years. Managing Director Javier Ponce says the company is always happy to give back to the community.

“I think we will keep it growing, even stronger than now. For twenty one years the company has been helping the community by giving the gift of education. So we are very committed to keeping that and it is going to be in our plan for this and years to come.”
