Brazen robber steals school warden payroll

Story Picture
A mid morning jacking in Belize City has made one thief six thousand dollars richer…at least for now. The money, which was salary for fifty-six school wardens, was taken from the School Community Liaison Officer’s building on Partridge Street soon after the staff began to prepare the payroll. According to the secretary, Jane Alvarez, a young man sporting a baseball cap entered the office and a held them at gun point.

Jane Alvarez, Secretary

“Well actually, I was in the boss’ office. Our officer was out there at the front desk. I was dealing with the salary when we saw the door open, right. He walked in with this guy behind him, holding a gun. And the boy said, “nobody move or else I will shoot him first and then you will get shot, then I will shot up everybody.” So the boss told him, “you don’t have to do that, just take the money, just take the money and go.” But meanwhile he took the money because I had the money already in envelopes on the desk. He grabbed the envelopes first, then he took the cash, put them in a manila envelope and meanwhile he is still waving the gun on us. He said “Don’t move, because I still can shoot you.” And while he walked out he said again, “Don’t move, because I will shoot.” So he closed the door and rode off on a bicycle.”

“Did you see what he looked like?”

Jane Alvarez

“Actually, I didn’t recognise him so good because of his disguise, how he fixed up himself, and I was standing behind my boss, so I really didn’t see him too well.”

According to Alvarez, the payroll usually arrives late in the day, which means the jacker just happened to show up at the right time. Police as yet have no suspects.
