No Arrests in Murder of Elderly Guatemalan Musician
Why was Manuel Barrera, an elderly Guatemalan national, killed in Young Bank? It’s a question that investigators in the Cayo District are still trying to have answered. The seventy-eight-year-old met a vicious demise when he was attacked and killed inside his residence in that area of Camalote Village. Barrera’s decomposing body had what appeared to be multiple chop wounds. The musician was hacked to death in what is believed to be a family dispute. A number of persons have been brought in for questioning and subsequently released due to a lack of evidence.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“We are still investigating that matter and we are still seeking two persons whom we believe can assist in the investigation. Several persons were detained and later released pending further investigations.”

“And a motive has still not been determined in regards to this…”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“At this point in time no. As was previously reported, his monies and other personal effects were found on him at the time his body was found.”

“Now sir, at the last press briefing you had made mention that a machete was found nearby with bloodstains on it, believed to have been the murder weapon. Has that been determined through forensics if it is indeed…”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Yes, that is in the process of being done, however, that will take some time. That had to have been packaged and then ferried to the lab for comparison.”
