Cyclist killed in N. Hwy knockdown

A bicyclist was knocked down by a pickup truck and killed as he pedalled down the Northern Highway on Sunday night. Fifty-six year old Mariano Herrera, a Mexican residing in San Jose Village, was struck down around 6:30 p.m. between miles sixty-three and sixty-four. He was hit from behind by a green pickup truck driven by twenty-three year old Noel Quetzal of Santa Clara Village. After hitting Herrera, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and crashed into the veranda of a house. Quetzal has been arrested and charged with driving without due care and attention, death by careless conduct, manslaughter by negligence, driving without a valid permit and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He is currently out on bail.
