Joseph Myvett

When police responded to the call of a barrage of shots being fired in the CET Site area, they found no one in the immediate vicinity, save for Armstrong’s motionless body.  Despite having canvassed the neighborhood in the wake of the shooting there are very few details that have led to a suspect thus far.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, the incident happened just around news time last evening.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Last night, sometime around 6:45 p.m., Belize City police were called to the CET Site area in Lake Independence, whereupon arrival they observed the motionless body of Brian Armstrong with apparent gunshot injuries.  The scene was processed and his body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  What the police know so far is that sometime around 6:30 p.m., shots were heard in the area and as a result they were called, whereupon arrival that is when they found his motionless body there.  We are following several leads at this point in time and also at this point we do not have a motive.”

“Sir, there are speculations that he may have been killed by a rival gang.  Is there anything in the investigation pointing to that?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“There is no information to suggest that at this point in time but as I said before, we are looking at all leads.”

Andrea Polanco

“Are you able to say if the area where he was killed is the neighborhood of a rival gang?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“No, not at this time.”

Reporter

“Sir, can police say what he was doing in that area?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“That, at this point in time, was not explained to us.  He obviously goes to that area frequently, from what we were told.”

Andrea Polanco

“Sir, from Brian Armstrong’s background, is there anything maybe coming up on the police radar as to criminal past or involvement in gangs?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“As far as we know, we would not want to bring the past forward, but we know that recently he was charged for being a member of a gang.”

Andrea Polanco

“Did the family say if he was threatened or anything of the sort recently?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“No, that information was not given to us.”
