13 year old killed by reckless driver
She was returning from school with two fellow students when a car came hurtling off the road in their direction. While her friends managed to run, thirteen year old Maria del Carmen Sosa, frozen with fright, could not. The Ladyville resident was struck down and later died at the K.H.M.H. The driver of the car, thirty year old Anna Cocom, was travelling west on Mirage Road in Ladyville and lost control as she attempted to turn left onto Perez Road. Residents of the area told News 5 that Cocom’s husband was recently injured and she had only just learned to drive his vehicle. They speculate that as she reached the intersection she may have become nervous and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Cocom was detained by police, but no charges have yet been filed.
