Placencia Chairpersons Welcomes Tourism Police Unit

According to Ilsa Villanueva, chairperson of the Placencia Village Council, residents and business owners have been clamoring for more officers to be stationed in the south.  With financial assistance and other resources, including training, from the B.T.B., the peninsula has seen additional manpower.

“We have always wanted more, as we know that its needed here, especially in the high season, you know.  We want to see more faces, for tourists to feel comfortable and even our villagers and I think having them is going to show a deep presence that we are concerned about the security of our villagers and our tourists.”

“The Belize Tourism Board has committed to providing support financially and also in terms of social infrastructure, the Belize Police Department, specifically the TPU in that we provide training in terms of service training, legislative training and enforcement and we also provide financial support for the purchasing of equipment, vehicles and anything necessary for the furtherance of carrying out the duties of the Tourism Police Unit.”

 

A similar ceremony will be held in San Pedro on Wednesday afternoon.
