Police Constables Leonard Nunez and Hallet King are Free Men

Police constables Leonard Nunez and Hallet King were released from custody today after being held on remand for the manslaughter of Caye Caulker resident Hilbert Sotz.  The pair was initially arraigned on a count of murder but that charge was subsequently reduced to manslaughter.  Sotz died while in detention at the police station in Caye Caulker in June 2015.  Both officers were arrested on June eighth, 2015 and placed on pretrial detention at the Belize Central Prison.  This afternoon, before Justice Colin Williams, the men were informed that since they have already spent one year and four months in on remand and an additional two months since they were taken back into custody from June fifteenth of this year, their stint in detention is considered time served since the judge imposed a nine month sentence.
