Raymond Dyer Gets Three Years in Prison for Weed and Firearm

Raymond Lightfoot Dyer

Thirty-two-year-old Raymond Lightfoot Dyer, a fisherman from Ladyville, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, after being busted with five hundred and thirty-one grams of marijuana.  He was also charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license and keeping ammunition without being granted a gun license by the Commissioner of Police.  This morning, Dyer and his girlfriend Yanique Morgan, along with Gasman Henry Young Junior, a mutual friend of the couple, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser.  The trio was read three criminal offenses and pleaded not guilty to all charges.  Dyer subsequently changed his plea when the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Egbert Castillo, began looking at a date for all three to be remanded.  Since he took ownership of the items, Dyer was sentenced to three years imprisonment on all counts.  Those counts would have resulted in a nine-year stretch at the Belize Central Prison where he would be serving a total of three years per offense committed.  Since he wasted no time in pleading guilty, Dyer was sentenced to three years in prison, the sentences to run concurrently.  Dyer was busted on Thursday morning at his home in the Hollywood area of Ladyville.  According to police, when they arrived at the residence Dyer was observed tossing an object which appears to be a firearm out of a window.  The object which was later proven to be a handgun fell into the same yard.  A search of the property yielded the drug, as well as the ammunition.
