Commissioner of Police on Vince Martinez’s Complaint

Chester Williams

Vince Martinez made an official complaint to the Professional Standards Branch after he was shot in the groin. According to Martinez, there hasn’t been any progress in the case. Commissioner Williams told the media that some cases are complex.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Some investigations are complex because we have found that at times people do make complaints and there is no truth to it, some are out of malice. There are times complaints are made and they are legitimate complaints so we don’t want to rush and hurry take action and when it turns out it is not so. We have to be very meticulous in how we conduct these investigations to ensure that whatever is being complained about is really true. I for one can say publicly that it will not serve me or my department any good for us to be covering the corrupt or abusive behavior of police officers.  Once there is evidence that officers are corrupt or they behave in such a way, believe you me I will not hesitate to do what needs to be done to get rid of them but at the end of the day we have to ensure that we follow a process that when we do certain things it does not come back and haunt us.”
