11th Annual Belize Camping Experience a Success!
Summer is coming to an end and along with it the activities organized by the Belize Camping Experience. This year, the organization gathered more than one thousand campers from across the country to participate in its eleventh annual summer camp program. The program engages young leaders with positive, fun, life-changing experiences that develop confidence, competence and life skills. The camps are held from week to week at different schools and Director Alexander Perez says this year was a success.
Alexander Perez, Director, Belize Camping Experience
“We had one thousand and fifty campers that came to the camp from Monday to Friday. Three camps consecutively ran for every week. We had seventy four amazing young people that came out from across the country to give up their time so we can do those summer camps.”
Hipolito Novelo
“The kids participated in what sort of activities throughout those weeks?”
Alexander Perez
“One of the things is that we did a lot of leadership training and so we know that our kids need good positive role models. So we have to train our young people that they can be a good role model to our children.”
Nadeesha Robinson, Team Leader, Belize Camping Experience
“You learn leadership skills and you get to connect with kids and be role model for them and influence them in ways that they would have never thought.”
Jeremy Zantingh, Team Member, Belize Camping Experience
“We try to build character in these young people that when they are under pressure how do they react. How do they treat others? Are they taking care of their teammates? That was one thing that was really cool. We had other fun stuff like banquets where you can dress up in a costume and just have a good time with other young people. So it was really cool to watch young people come and grow in the afternoon program.”
