M.O.E. and B.N.T.U. Find Common Ground on Renewal of Full Licenses
As the new school year approaches, representatives of the Belize National Teachers Union met with Chief Education Officer, Doctor Carol Babb, and M.O.E. Crown Counsel, Delvit Samuels, regarding the application for the renewal of full licenses. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that all teachers should apply for the renewal of their full licenses as soon as possible because each teacher must have a valid contract to be in the classroom for the coming school year. During the meeting, it was also agreed that having a full license does not guarantee approval of your renewal application. Among other things, it was also agreed that teachers with full licenses issued in 2015 will need to apply for renewal in 2020. A press statement from the B.N.T.U. says that the Continuous Professional Development requirement will be overlooked at this point. This was one of the main points of contention between both bodies as the C.P.D. is a requirement to be completed over five years for teachers to maintain their licenses. The deadline to apply is December first, 2019.
