Arrested for robbery, Brown questioned on shooting
In crime news police are still searching for the occupants of a stolen white Toyota who shot and wounded reputed gang figure Clay Monsanto and two others on Monday night. In a related development, however, a man wanted for questioning in the incident has been arrested for another crime. Twenty-four year old Brian Brown, the rival leader embraced by Monsanto in the wake of the killing of Monsanto’s son in February, was charged in connection with the robbery of a Chinese restaurant that occurred on Saturday night. Brown was allegedly part of a group of four men who assaulted the proprietor of the Plum Tree Restaurant on East Canal and stole a hundred dollars from the cash drawer. The four men then escaped in a white Toyota that was later found to be stolen. This is may or may not be the same white Toyota used in Monday night’s driveby shooting. No doubt, while in custody Brown will be asked some pointed questions. One theory making the rounds is that the attempt on Monsanto’s life was revenge for the Sunday night killing of Kevin Carr, who in turn had been shot for his alleged involvement in the death of Monsanto’s son, which was itself in retaliation for…well, you get the idea.
In other crime news, police have arrested Sherlock Martinez in connection with in Tuesday’s shooting of Sherwin Nunez on Fuller’s Alley off Cemetery Road. He has been charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in public, use of deadly means of harm and grievous harm.
