Belmopan businesswoman still missing
Belmopan police still have no leads in the disappearance of sixty-six year old Rosa Cristina Cornejo who went missing sometime between last Friday and early Saturday morning from her home in Belmopan. But it is known that one of her children has arrived from El Salvador, where Cornejo is originally from, to help in the search for his mother.
Cornejo owned and operated a store in the Belmopan Market Square. When her housekeeper reported to work at the businesswoman’s house on Calle Las Americas around eight-thirty on Saturday morning, she discovered the front gate wide open without the usual chain and padlock on it.
The back door was also wide open and Cornejo’s Nissan pick-up truck was nowhere in sight. The vehicle was located the next day on a feeder road between miles forty-six and forty-seven near Rio Cocos Resort on the Western Highway. Police say their investigations are complicated because neither Cornejo’s house nor her vehicle showed signs of a struggle or robbery and that things appeared to be in order. The Belmopan cops believe that Cornejo was at home alone on Friday night and was tricked by someone she knew.
