School loses materials to burglars

Story Picture
A good samaritan is a person you can count on when you need help, and that is exactly what teachers of the Good Samaritan Institute need after they found out that their classrooms were burglarised. The school occupies a small section on the first floor of the Belize City Centre and caters to kids who didn’t make it into high school. According to the school’s principal, Dawn Lino, the thieves made off with over seven thousand dollars in donated supplies.

“On arriving to school at 7:45 a.m. I found the school building looked unusual, so we went searching and to find out if there were any items missing. We found a lot of our stuff and our stationary and supplies missing. We went on a further search to find out where was the entry point, and we found a broken window with the burglar bars opened, where they came in.

A lot of our stationary were missing, especially our Hooked on Phonics, two series that we had just recently gotten from a donor, Miss Jean Gomez. We found out that a lot of our text books and a lot of our cooking supplies were missing out of the kitchen, along with awards and certificates that were to be given out to our children.

We got these materials to prepare our kids for the next semester coming up. Most of them will help them to better their reading, their comprehension and understanding of the English language. They were stolen from us and we really need them back.”

If anyone would like to assist the school you can call Lino at 02-74332 or visit them at Belize City Centre.
