Chester on Sarkis Abou-Nehra’s Home Invasion Case Falling Apart

In respect of the case involving a gang of thieves who reportedly broke into the home of businessman Sarkis Abou-Nehra in Burrell Boom in December 2015.That case continues to come apart at the seams.  On Tuesday, a trio of suspects, the last of the accused men, was set free, when prosecutor Inspector Egbert Castillo informed the court that the matter had already been set for final trial, but that the virtual complainant was out of the country.  What was once a very solid case, at least on the surface, has since fallen apart for want of prosecution.  Today, ComPol Williams deflected that failure away from the police department.

“I think that the reason for the case to have fallen apart was because of the fact that the [complainant] did not show up.  That cannot be thrown on the prosecution.  No, I think it’s an unfair accusation, let me say…  Where the complainants do not show up, that is beyond the scope of the prosecutor or the police.  The police investigates, the prosecutor prosecutes, but as I have always long maintained that it requires the citizenry to allow the wheels of justice to turn and where the citizenry does not participate then the wheels of justice are not going to go anywhere and so it’s an unfortunate situation that it turned up that way.  But it was surely beyond the scope of the police and the prosecutor.”
