Metro Stars top Yabra in shootout

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re just in time for another dish of Sports Monday. After a week of protest at the B.N.F.A. headquarters on Simon Lamb Street, the disenchanted with Dr. Chimilio took to their message to downtown Albert and Regent Streets on Saturday in an effort to further reinforce their message.

Today the organisers brought out a whole lot of juvenile footballers and even three female players made their presence felt as they join the crew that has been voicing opposition to Dr. Chimilio from the start of this campaign.

For the Secretary of the B.N.F.A., Norman Luna, he stepped out of James Brodie and Co. smack into the protesters and here’s this exchange.

Of course the real target, B.N.F.A. president, has not been sighted or heard from since the start of this upheaval. It seems this movement shill has some legs and we’ll just have to wait to see what happens.

In the meantime we understand this situation has produced a rift in the B.N.F.A. executive with Vice President Trenton Miller and Darius Daniels siding against the president. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.

Now lets head north to the Ricalde Stadium Corozal, where week VII of the B.F.L. football playoffs finds Kulture Yabra visiting the red hot and deadly Metro Stars of Corozal and yes, the lines are drawn with each side displaying serious fan support.

The first shot at goal comes from Metro Stars who use this spotkick to test Charlie Slusher, who passes with flying colours. Off this corner kick the Stars threaten again when this header crashes against the crossbar.

Yabra tries to get some offence going when Donny Tun pushes this ground ball in front of Geovanni Rodriguez’s goal, but Kello Leslie can’t catch up with the pill.

It’s more pressure by the Stars when Jair Perera, the Brazilian, moves to launch this bomb only to be physically silenced by the big foot of El Gigante Perez.

At the other end, Donny Tun deals to Tilliman Nunez who doesn’t have the time to put much pace on the shot, much to Rodriguez’s liking. At the half it’s a nil-nil score.

In second half play, this failure of this Metro striker to handle this pass takes away his scoring opportunity, so he takes it out on Charlie Slusher.

Probably the biggest impact in second half action comes when Freddie Avila hands this ball to earn himself a second yellow card for, which he is ejected. However, the Stars could not capitalise on the numeric advantage so we go to overtime.

With time running out Metro Stars looks for the sudden death goal from long distance, but Slusher intervenes. Off this corner kick from Rogel Jones, Yabra squanders a scoring opportunity when Kello Leslie hands this ball.

Can Chetumal, formerly of Belize City, pick up the win for his team? He does the right things, but Slusher handles.

Again its Chetumal on the move–this time finding striker on the run and guess what? The striker misfires from point blank range. Our director Rick Romero says even he could have scored this one–so we go to penalties.

The first by Metro Stars and he beats Charlie Slusher fort he 1-zip lead. Vallan Simms then steps up and he might just be one of the best penalty kickers in town, as you will observe.

The next Metro Stars offering is turned away by Charlie–twice before it is recorded as a save. And then Charlie comes right back to give Yabra the lead. This one from the Stars travels outside the sticks, but the left foot shot from Rodriguez is worse.

Nevertheless, its time for Allan Flowers to take his shot and guess what? Charlie Slusher prevails.

Now watch this shot from Gigante Perez–it hits under the crossbar and falls behind his keeper and should be a goal after we check our footage, but Referee David Jones rules otherwise.

Nevertheless, its time for another save from Slusher and there you have it. However, with this miss by Kello Leslie, things begin to change for Yabra.

Orlando Reid then steps up to give the Stars the lead with this conversion. Norman “Tilliman” Nunez now has the opportunity to force the tie, but the big time striker fails as Metro Stars take the one point victory.

In other news from around the league, Juventus won its first play off game by bombing Builders Hardware Bandits 3-1 at the People’s Stadium yesterday, while out west Leslie Verdes toppled defending champion Sagitun by that very same score.

In volleyball news, in results for games played on Saturday, B.H. Paints Stars getting pass Acros lady Scorpions in three sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23. Also, Acros Scorpions stung A.M.S. Jaguars by default.
