Belize Tax Service Department Refuses Visit of P.S.U. President & his Team
The recently elected President of the Public Service Union, Gerald Henry, has concluded three weeks of his countrywide familiarization tour. Henry traveled the country visiting government offices and while he was welcomed in most, he was snubbed by the newly amalgamated Belize Tax Service Department in Belize City. In a press release, the P.S.U. stated that even after being informed of the president’s arrival those at the office “out-rightly refused the president and his team.” The release stated that the act is in contravention section forty of the Trade Unions and Employers Organizations’ Act which states that no employer should refuse or fail to give an officer or representative of a certified trade union access the their premises “as may be necessary for the promotion of the lawful activities of the trade union”. But the union is moving ahead and hopes that the rest of the tour goes smoothly. The reason for the cold shoulder is not confirmed.
