People’s United Party Appoints New Senators
Opposition Leader John Briceño has returned to office following a road traffic accident that he was involved in three weeks ago. Upon his return, Briceño met with the party’s leader to consult appointments of new senators. Via press release this evening the P.U.P. confirmed the appointment of Isabel Bennett and Doctor Louis Zabaneh as Opposition Senators. Bennett and Zabaneh will be replacing former Senators Paul Thompson and Valerie Woods. They will join lead opposition Senator Michel Chebat. The new senators will be sworn in at the Special Sitting of the Senate on Friday, August thirtieth. Woods says that while she is no longer a member of parliament, she remains committed to see real change to the system of governance in Belize and looks forward to a time when political leaders will stand up for the human rights and dignity of all Belizeans no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
