New look for traffic wardens
If you’ve looked around Belize City during the past few days, you would have
noticed that officers in the Traffic Department are wearing new uniforms.
And while it will make their presence more visible, the Belize City Council
is banking on that point to make motorists think twice before breaking
the law. According to Paco Smith, Public Relations manager for the council,
in addition to new outfits, we should see improvements in the quality
of service.
Paco Smith, P.R. Officer, Belize City Council “The uniforms
is but one part of this entire upgrading effort. For example, during the
month of May the Belize City Council had a banner month in relation new
equipment and initiatives that were obtained. For example, we received
two specially designed Yamaha trail bikes that are used for traffic enforcement.
Also, we received a donation of two motor scooters and we have received
some vests for our traffic officers. The uniforms themselves are just
part of the parcel of the entire upgrading effort.”
Jose Sanchez
“In addition to just having the uniforms and the vests, what about the
actual performance?”
Paco Smith
“Rest assured that we at the Belize City Council realise that aesthetics
is not everything. It does count for something, but we believe that with
the advent of the new uniforms, it will instil within our officers a greater
sense of responsibility. But from the other side of the coin, a lot of
times the general public has a tendency to disrespect those officers.
We believe that with the new uniforms, this should help to add a bit of
clout with regards to the duties that they are carrying out.”
