Belize-American rapper cuts new CD
Jamal
Shyne Barrow may be the only Belizean American rap artist to get on B.E.T.’s
top ten countdown, but another young rapper is also hoping to make it
to the big time. Twenty-five year old Len Berzerk has more in common with
Shyne than just Belizean roots, as Berzerk has done some hard time on
New York’s Rikers Island. Now in Belize on holiday, the rapper is hoping
to promote his album called “Da Real Side.”
Len Berzerk, Rapper
“The album is a peaceful album, there’s a little bit of unity, love,
happiness and stuff like that from New York. We’re trying to get a broader
audience and big up the label and promote all the artists that are on
the label. We have five artists on the label: See Why, Bx Bangaz, Danjerouz,
Len Berzerk.”
Jose Sanchez
“What about your music, what is it like?”
Len Berzerk
“My music is soft core basically. A lot of people rhyme about violence
and stuff of that nature, but I rhyme about peace and trying to promote
love and unity and partying, having fun. The original aura, of rap, hip
hop, because I’m old school from back in the days, so I’m trying to bring
it back to the rightful elements..”
Jose Sanchez
“Because your music is rap, do you think it will have a market in Belize?
Do you think people will look out for it and try to get it?”
Len Berzerk
“Well, my background is from Belize, so I consider myself a Belizean
still. I’m trying to market it and hopefully it’ll do well because I’m
still one a y’all at the same time.”
If you want to see Berzerk in concert, he says that he will be performing
at Russell’s Place in Bermudian Landing on Father’s Day, June seventeenth.
