Twenty Ninth Women’s Softball Championship to be held Weekend
The twenty-ninth women’s softball championship is scheduled to begin on Friday at Roger’s Stadium in Belize City. Four teams, two from Belize City and two from Rural Belize will go head to head to compete and become this year’s champions. Participating are the Belize Bank Bulldogs, Arrows Reloaded Softball Team, Orchid Girls and Gigi Softball Team. This year, President of the Belize Softball Federation, Jude Lizama, and Tournament Director, Keith Madrill are switching things up, creating a level playing field to the participating teams. Earlier today a press briefing was held where the importance of this tournament was underscored.
Jude Lizama, President, Belize Softball Federation
“We are twenty nine years old as a national championship and this represents the four associations in Belize that are currently active. Those champions from those districts and the sub champions are invited to take part in this tournament. We have made an attempt to make sure that all four district play in the opening round and so our selection process reflects that so that no two team from the same district play in the first four games.”
Keith Madrill, Tournament Director
“We came up with a system that each team go in a separate basket so that nobody from the same area will play the first four games. So we went ahead and we picked and tossed who will be home team and the first match on Friday night will be Belize Bank Bulldogs versus Bermudian Landing.”
