PSU outraged at the debt write off to the son of the Cab Sec

Another matter that has been in days has to do with a debt write-off. The Finance and Economic Committee of the House on Tuesday approved a motion for the unpopular write-off of a loan granted to Joshua Perdomo, the son of the sitting Cabinet Secretary, Carlos Perdomo. Four cabinet ministers, John Saldivar, Hugo Patt, Edmond Castro and Elodio Aragon Junior voted in favour.  The loan was made in 2014 for Joshua to study a Masters in Forensic Genetics in the United States. It was co-signed by his sister Sylvia Perdomo. Now, there has been backlash over the write-off since the motion was presented to the House by Prime Minister Barrow who interestingly stated that the son of the Cab Sec could not be located.  D.P.M. Patrick Faber, who is also the Minister of Education, has also not supported the write-off calling it most unfortunate. On Tuesday, Caribbean Shores Representative Kareem Musa also objected and was joined by a number of citizens who also gave a thumbs-down to the debt forgiveness. In Committee, the Financial Secretary admitted that the write off was one of a kind. Today, the Public Service Union came out swinging against the measure putting it in perspective that the continuous acts of nepotism by government officials is counterproductive, not in the best interest of the pubic, a flagrant abuse of process, unconscionable and outright scandalous. A P.S.U. release states that the Ministry of Finance has once again failed the people by not being able to demonstrate that it went above and beyond to recover the funds. The P.S.U. calls on the House and Senate to reject it and on the Prime Minister to recall the motion and to hold those responsible for failing to carry out their duties. The P.S.U. also salutes the D.P.M. and Musa for speaking out against the forty thousand dollar write- off. The P.S.U. recognizes that public officers are bonded when awarded scholarships to ensure that they return to serve.
