Miss Universe Belize Donates to Young Men of Wagner’s Youth Facility

Miss Universe Belize Jenelli Fraser dropped by the Wagner’s Facility on the George Price Highway this morning as part of the community work she is undertaking during her year of reign. Frazer, who will be crowning a new Miss Universe in the days to come, partnered with DIGI to provide internet services to the youths. The service comes in handy to make their stay at the facility, more productive. Here is News Five Hipolito Novelo.

Residents of the Wagner’s Youth Facility at the Belize Central Prison today were visited by the reigning Miss Universe Belize Jenelli Fraser who came bearing gifts. According to Fraser, while rehabilitation, reintegration, and education are important, providing the young men with basic necessities is crucial.

“Our youths are our future as cliché as it may sound and we need to start supporting them. The purpose of the Wagner’s Youth Facility is about rehabilitation and reforming our youths but we are also missing that human touch that we show them that we care, we just don’t say that we care. That is my purpose being here today, to remind the boys that society is still there for you. There is still hope, it is not the end of the world.”

Joining Fraser on her mission of community service was Digi. The telecom giant installed free internet with a speed of one hundred and thirty megabytes.

“We have revamped our civic outreach strategy and part of our focus us youths. We have youths here that we are helping and that is one of the main reasons for supporting. This initiative something that Ms Fraser brought up to us and we saw it as a really good opportunity to come out and support different youths in a different setting.”

Director of the facility, Williams Dawson, says that the donation was much needed.

“Most of our youths come from poverty stricken environment and the prison provides basic needs for the young men. Essentially the usage of these items are, they use them very frequently. They cannot replenish them as frequent as they want to. So these supplies come in very handy as hygiene is an important part of their habilitation. We have a program called the computer aided literacy program and there is the Kaina Online High School program. So we try to educate these young and improve their literacy and so this donation will help us tremendously to allow more of these young men to be able to access the computer aided programs that we offer here at the facility with this internet package from DIGI.”
