Police Department places more boots on the streets as September Celebrations kick off

The September celebration activities get underway this weekend and the Belize Police Department is ready. In the bi-weekly press brief, today Head of the Crimes Investigation Branch in Belize City, Superintendent Alejandro Cowo told the media that as Belizeans get ready to celebrate, the department heightens security.

“Yes there is additional police that will be deployed to several activities that will be taking place in the city and also, if you notice, there are special operations in effect almost every day in Belize City to combat any crime that might deter or prevent any criminal activity during the September celebrations. There are officers deployed in several parts of the city and our operations are being conducted on a daily basis.”

“In instances where licensed gun holders might be attending these events, is it legal for them to carry their firearm on their person?”

“Well that is their firearm, they can carry it anywhere they want but they have to be mindful that if they are consuming alcoholic beverages you cannot be in possession of a firearm because it is an offense if police stops you and they suspect that you are under the influence”
