San Ignacio/Santa Elena’s Kimberly Santos is new Queen of the Bay
The seventy-fourth Queen of the Bay pageant took place at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday. It was a night of beauty, elegance, eloquence and grace as seven delegates, from across the country, vied for the prestigious title of Queen of the Bay 2019/2020. After the delegates got a chance to showcase their talent, perform the curtsy, and show off their charm, San Ignacio/Santa Elena’s, Kimberly Santos, bested the others to become this year’s Queen of the Bay designate and will be wearing the crown on September tenth. Santos also took home the titles of Ms. Photogenic and Most Talented. Santos took the crown for the twin towns after a period of fifty-four years without winning; Yolanda Cruz won back in 1965. Here is how Santos took it all in.
Kimberly Santos, Queen of the Bay Designate
“I am overwhelmed with emotions. I can’t believe it because this competition was so stiff all these ladies were so talented and eloquent in everything they do. So when they said I won, the emotions just flowed right out of me. And I am so, so happy and I can’t wait to make Belize Proud. I trained really hard with my trainer Ms. Nancy Pott. All my families and supporters encouraged me all the way. And that is how I got here today; I trained super, super hard. Well you see the question wasn’t about a woman in power right it said a Belizean woman, and the first person I thought about was my mother because there is no one in this world that inspires me more than my mother. She is all the inspiration in the world for me and I am completely happy with the answer that I gave. Never give up because prior to this I didn’t have the confidence, I didn’t think I will ever make it. So take this as an example. If I am here on this stage and I made it so can you. And it is not cliché of me to say that, I mean it with all my heart, so can you young girls.”
Coming in second as the first Runner-Up was Sabrina Coleman from Stann Creek, who also won Ms. Amity, Ms. Eloquence as well as Ms. Elegantly Dress. Ms. Belmopan, Kiah Pastor and Ms. San Pedro, Aaliyah Pilgram are second and third runner ups
