Betson continues to fight for land

Story Picture
George Betson has been fighting to keep a parcel of land on the northern highway ever since he found out his lease was cancelled several months ago. Today the saga continued as a pick-up was hired to remove his van from the disputed property. While towing the vehicle, the truck got stuck in the mud and damaged the van. Late this evening News 5’s Jose Sanchez spoke to an irate Betson who vowed to stand his ground.

George Betson

“They bring a truck, they pulled the van, the transmission and the rear end, they tore up the bumper, I told them that that is their van. It’s obvious that he is receiving his orders from other than the police, I think it’s from Mr. Marin. He is not responding to his normal duty, he is going beyond that.”

Jose Sanchez

“But they have an injunction to remove you from the property?”

George Betson

“They say they have an injunction, I discussed it with my attorney, who said the injunction is just as phony as the lease that Mr. Marin has. He said the only reason an injunction can be issued like that, it has to be two person, two stories and not one. It’s only an emergency, deep emergency then an injunction can be issued under this circumstance and that is not here.”

Jose Sanchez

“Okay Mr. Betson if they do manage to remove your vehicle from the premises, what will you do then? Will you stay?”

George Betson

“I am not going nowhere. They have to kill me, they have to take my life. I am going to be here regardless of the circumstance and that’s the bottom line.”

The Ministry of National Resources cancelled Betson’s lease for lack of development and sold the land to a sanitation company belonging to Rupert Marin.
