Counterfeit greenbacks in San Ignacio

Police are asking Cayo residents to be on the lookout for counterfeit U.S. dollars that they believe are circulating in the area. On Saturday, boledo vendor James Young, who operates in front of Delicious Restaurant on Burns Avenue in San Ignacio, received what appeared to be twenty U.S. dollars in payment from a Hispanic man. Later that day Young realised that the money wasn’t real. On the same day and same street, merchant Amin Zaiden sold a bottle of coffee to a Hispanic man who paid him with a twenty U.S. dollar bill which also turned out to be phony. Police press officer G. Michael Reid says that they are asking the public to watch their money closely and contact the department if they suspect someone of passing counterfeit cash.
