Police issues an official report on the incident
Late this evening police issued an official report saying that Police were on patrol in the Village around five o’clock on Thursday evening. As they neared the river, they saw a pickup loaded with contraband beers and soft drinks. The Police report adds that when officers intercepted the pickup, they were attacked by villagers with stones. The four officers sustained varying degrees of injuries to their bodies and the police vehicle sustained damages to the front and rear windshields. On Thursday evening, Mexican media began publishing reports that two Belizean men were shot and injured by Belize Police as they attempted to flee with contraband goods. The reports add that the men fled to San Francisco Botes, located several miles from San Victor Village where they received assistance from Red Cross personnel. They were reportedly transported to the Chetumal Hospital.
