Two nabbed for gun and ammo

On Friday, the M.I.T. unit and other police officers conducted a vehicular checkpoint at mile sixteen, on the Phillip Goldson Highway. They confiscated two guns and six live rounds of ammunitions from a group of six persons identified as Belize City Cook, Moses Moore, Juan Canek, a Construction Worker of Plues Street, Julian Dyer, a fisherman of George Street, Darren Carrias, taxi-driver of San Andres, Corozal, Pearl Locke, a baby-sitter of Corozal Town and Kelisha Hall, a cashier at the Free Zone. The group appeared this morning before Senior Magistrate, Aretha Ford and were read charges of kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunitions without a gun license. Moses took the rap for the revolver and six live rounds while Carrias took the rap for the Beretta Brand pistol. Senior Magistrate Ford imposed a reduced two-year sentence on both men. In the case of Moses, his two sentences are to run concurrently, and both begin jail time today. The persons were travelling in a Corozal  licensed plate vehicle when they were stopped; police say they heard when an object dropped out of the vehicle which was the  Berretta firearm. Further checks led to the discovery of the revolver that was loaded with six live rounds of ammunitions.
