Classes resume at La Inmaculada

Children were back in class today at La Inmaculada R.C. School, Orange Walk Town.  According to School Principal Lenny Umaña, the day went by without incident. The enrolment is more than a thousand students; Umaña  told us that about eighty-five percent of the students showed up today for classes and each child and staff member was provided with a mask. She also says that the smell from the New River was very mild. The students were monitored throughout the day and all went without a hitch. The personnel from the Ministry of Health and the Department of the Environment continue to make regular checks in the area. The school has other contingency plans should the need arise. Classes had to be suspended last week since gases from the New River were causing a stench which was making some students and teachers ill. We are told that the Department of the Environment has installed aerators near Lamanai Riverside Retreat, which is near the school.
