Reynaldo Verde facing Extortion charges in the US
There are further details tonight on the arrest of senior government official, Reynaldo Verde. Verde is the deputy director of the Belize Tax Service Department. Over the past weekend he was detained at the Washington Dulles airport by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. He was returning from a conference in Brussels and he is facing charges of Extortion. The F.B.I. has issued a statement which states “The F.B.I. announces the arrest of Reynaldo Verde, forty-six, of the country of Belize, by complaint for his alleged interference with commerce by means of extortion and attempted extortion. Verde, who is the assistant Commissioner for the Department of General Sales Tax for the Government of Belize, was arrested without incident by the F.B.I. at Washington Dulles International Airport on Saturday, September seventh, 2019. His initial appearance is anticipated to be September ninth, 2019, in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia. The complaint detailing the charges can be found in PACER under the Southern District of Florida in due time. Customs and Border Protection assisted during the arrest. The F.B.I. continues its investigation. No further information will be released at this time.”
