Will Danny Mason’s Witness Take the Stand in Murder Trial?

The trial of accused murderer William “Danny” Mason and four others charged jointly for beheading Pastor Llewellyn Lucas in July 2016, has been adjourned until September eighteenth, while the Supreme Court of Justice Antoinette Moore attempts to get another witness to testify in the ongoing case.  Tim Reid, an employee of the United States Embassy, was named as a witness by Mason on Thursday during an un-sworn statement from the dock.  Getting Reid to make a declaration under oath is proving to be challenging, considering that he is presently out of the jurisdiction.  A search of Reid’s whereabouts online indicates that he is presently stationed in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  The process of getting him on the stand is a rather bureaucratic one and may take up to six weeks.  In court this morning, the possibility of having him testify via written statement was also explored.  These options are being weighed carefully since Mason’s right to call a witness to the stand cannot be denied.  The U.S. Embassy has indicated to the court that they are making an effort to expedite the process.
